Tigre is on the Paraná Delta, which empties into the Río de
la Plata. The river splits into many smaller channels creating a network of
islands and wetlands covering 14,000 km².
Tigre is an easy train ride from Belgrano (45mins), the
train had plenty of room for bikes, standing and sitting on the floor but not
many actual seats, especially on the way there.
However it was quite an interesting journey through the various
neighbourhoods (barrios) of Buenos
Aires, residential houses surrounded by tall metal fences.
I took a 1 hour river trip on the Santa Maria, a fairly
small tour boat but it actually got up quite a speed at times, such that at one
point the wash from another boat came in through the window and giving me a
drenching.
Along the bank of the river there were many weekend houses, which
can only be reached by boat, they came in many different styles. The guide was
in Spanish so all I understood was a la derecha / a la izquierda. There were not
many unspoilt areas on this short river tour, but I will be back.
Back in Tigre, I had a walk along the riverbank, there were
areas shaded by climbing plants and some interesting epiphytes growing on the
Ceibo trees.

I walked round “Puerto de Frutos” a craft fair selling a range
of locally produced goods such as leather and wooden products and yerba mate
vessels.
